I am a Christian amateur cosmologist and speaker.
Strengthening Christian faith through science

About Me

Dr Ken Pitts

Based in Bournemouth, UK, I am an part of the leadership team at Immanuel Southbourne, where I have worshipped my entire life.

I am fascinated by cosmology and have been an amateur astronomer in my fairly light-polluted back garden since 2020.  The more I learn about the sheer scale and wonder of the universe, the stronger my faith in an awesome creator.

Originally a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, a career change in 2002 now sees me leading the CGI and Visual Effects course and researching the application of CGI techniques to black hole observations at Southampton Solent University, UK.
I have an MA and a PhD in 3D Animation.

Statement of Faith

I believe in God the three-in-one: God the Father, creator of the universe; God the Son, my personal saviour; and God the Holy Spirit, who sustains me daily.  I believe Jesus died to redeem our sins and rose again, defeating death.
Our Christian journey has within it a search for truth; a search for meaning, a search for "why".  This is not at odds with science because science is not a search for meaning.  Science is a methodology for creating the simplest usable explanation of observations of the physical universe.  It can only help in answering "how" questions, not "why" questions.  Far from being a risk to faith, I have found that understanding more about "how" the universe is can strengthen our Christian faith.
"His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made." Rom 1:20
